Stourbridge MP Margot James together with Mike Wood (MP for Dudley South) were at Withymoor in Amblecote today calling on Dudley Council to bring forward proposals for a transit site for travellers and so avoid the effects of illegal encampments. When Dudley Council were under conservative control last year there were plans for a site in Coseley but the labour administration have shelved those plans.
The people of Amblecote experienced an illegal encampment last year which caused a considerable nuisance to local residents and landed council tax payers with the bill to clear up the mess. The provision of a transit site and preventative measures will make enforcement of illegal encampments easier.
Councillor Paul Bradley (Amblecote) said "Local residents have had enough of illegal encampments and a transit site will mean more effective enforcement. I call on the Council to take preventative measures as a matter of urgency".
